| Renewable Portfolio Standard Bill | |

WASHINGTON, DC, March 13, 2003 - Rep. Tom Udall (D-NM) introduced
H.R. 1294, a bill to amend title VI of the Public Utility Regulatory
Policies Act of 1978 to establish a Federal renewable energy portfolio
standard for retail electric utilities that generate more than 1 million
megawatt hours of electricity a year. The bill requires that the utilities
generate 20% of their electricity from renewable sources by 2025, beginning
with 1% in 2006 and going up 1% per year thereafter.
The bill sets up renewable energy credits that utility companies can earn, purchase, or borrow. The bill was referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. (members) The bill was introduced by the following Representatives: Mark Udall (D-CO) |
